George McManus for Drain Commissioner

George McManus

George McManus III

Candidate for Drain Commissioner

George McManus strives to bring clean water to Berrien County. With over 40 years of expertise in agriculture and related infrastructure, he is the candidate you can count on to bring his award-winning soil conservation and water management practices from his farm to all of Berrien County.

Ever since putting down roots here over 42 years ago, George has not only worked tirelessly to make this corner of Michigan a home for his wife, Laurie, and their four children, but also for his 13 grandchildren - and counting.  This legacy has inspired him to be an active community member for the benefit of future generations. Notably, George is the co-founder of Countryside Academy, a tuition-free school designed to inspire students to become productive citizens through lessons based on agriculture, renewable resources, and the environment.  He has also served as Board President since 1995, responsibly managing an 8-million-dollar annual budget.

While many county drains were originally installed to make farmland more productive, their value is far reaching today. In his four decades of farming, George has experienced first-hand how important these structures are to our quality of life and enjoyment of this beautiful place we call home. Drains are fundamental to the functionality, safety, and longevity of roads. They protect residential communities, structural foundations, and outdoor spaces.  They support our robust agricultural heritage and safeguard our rivers and lakes to ensure clean water for all. George understands the value of the drain system to the community, and will work with landowners, residents, municipalities, and contractors to ensure a healthy environment and clean waterways - now and in the future.
